The Day the Earth Stood Still

The highlight of the Green Party year must surely be the departure of three of their stalwarts to the Liberal Democrat Party.

Councillor Moore, who likes to be called Jay, is now on his third party, having begun as a conservative before his quantum leap to the Green Party. He has also reinvented himself as a “motivational speaker; is there no beginning to this man’s talent. Where next? Monster Raving Looney Party?

Councillor Radford, a lady who thinks balancing a budget is as easy as balancing on a unicycle during an earthquake, is another entrepreneur whose ventures make lemons look like gold bars.

And, last but surely not least is Councillor Jonathan Upton, a nice boy.

A quote from Helen Morgan:

“It is really humbling to have the support of such fantastic local councillors”.

“I know how hard Jay, Rosie and Jonathan work for their residents and their town, and it is fantastic to hear they feel they can do that and get things done for local people as Liberal Democrats”.

Councillor Kerr may not be so generous with praise for the malcontents and could be forgiven if he described them as “rats leaving a sinking ship”.

Oh dear Helen, be careful what you wish for.

Before turning to the trials and tribulations of the local Tory Party I thought I would just like to highlight a couple of Councillor Kerr’s examples of his fiscal genius:

Firstly, the “bike shed” or to give it its official title The Shropshire Cycle Hub housed in the old Edinburgh Mill shop. It is also used to garage the “bike of three wheels”.

It is currently on the market with a local agent to rent for the extremely competitive price of £25,000 a year. So, I think with a modicum of confidence I think we may assume that it is not going to be a short term let. But there’s more, since moving into the premises last year the Shropshire Cycle hub hasn’t paid any rent and indeed is not going to pay rent until July 2024, and then only £500 a year. Yes, it isn’t a typo, I did say £500 a year.

And so, we move on to the pièce de resistance, yes, you’ve guessed it, the “Puddle in the Park” or the splash pad as it is known by the author of this fiscal catastrophe Councillor Moore.

After paying £3,000 to Ray Parry Playground Services Limited to conduct a feasibility study on er…. a feasibility, the polit bureau have now decided that it is in the wrong place. Enough said!

The local Tory Party

My spies tell me that all is not well in the Tory camp. In fact, they are fighting like rats in a sack.

Some of them are even considering going Independent, or heaven forbid standing as a Reform Party Candidate.

Oh for the days when ex Councillor Barrow was on manoeuvres and Councillor Vince Hunt was having his driveway re-laid, and Shropshire Council was suing a local football team for the return of the Legacy Grant. Happy days, days full of fun and laughter. Oh how we laughed.
